Day By Day Description

Day 1: Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

Your trek begins at the Lemosho Gate, where you’ll embark on an exciting journey through the dense rainforest of Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes. The route offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife sightings and picturesque landscapes as you make your way to Mti Mkubwa Camp. The lush environment provides the perfect setting for a first-day introduction to the mountain’s beauty. After a comfortable climb, enjoy a restful night under the stars as you prepare for the next leg of your adventure.

Day 2: Trek to Shira Camp 1 (3,600m)

On Day 2, the trek takes you into the Shira Plateau, where you’ll experience the unique transition from dense rainforest to alpine meadows. As you ascend, the terrain opens up, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the magnificent Kibo. This day’s steady climb provides an excellent opportunity for acclimatization, ensuring your body adjusts to the increasing altitude. By the time you reach Shira Camp 1, you’ll be ready to enjoy the spectacular views of the plateau and settle into your camp for the night.

Day 3: Trek to Shira Camp 2 (3,850m)

Today’s trek takes you across the Shira Plateau towards Shira Camp 2, where you’ll continue to enjoy incredible vistas of the mountain. The route is filled with rocky terrain and sweeping panoramic views of the vast high-altitude landscape. As you trek through this striking environment, your body will begin to adjust to the higher elevations. Shira Camp 2 offers a peaceful setting to rest and reflect on the beauty of your surroundings, ensuring you’re ready for the challenge ahead.

Day 4: Trek to Barranco Camp (3,950m)

On Day 4, you’ll cross the famous Lava Tower, which sits at 4,600 meters, before descending slightly to Barranco Camp. This section of the climb is renowned for its dramatic landscapes and rugged terrain. The Lava Tower provides a great opportunity to challenge your body with a higher elevation before descending to Barranco, aiding your acclimatization. Barranco Camp offers stunning views of the Barranco Wall, a magnificent feature of Kilimanjaro, and the perfect location to prepare for the next day’s ascent.

Day 5: Trek to Karanga Camp (4,000m)

Today’s trek takes you up the steep Barranco Wall, one of the most memorable challenges on the Lemosho Route. As you conquer the wall, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and glaciers. The route then leads you to Karanga Camp, a serene resting spot at the base of the final summit push. The trek today is ideal for acclimatization, giving you time to adjust and rest in preparation for the ascent to the summit.

Day 6: Trek to Barafu Camp (4,600m)

On Day 6, the trail takes you to Barafu Camp, located at 4,600 meters, offering a dramatic change in the terrain. The path is marked by rocky landscapes and sparse vegetation as you make your way toward the final ascent. This day serves as a crucial acclimatization period, preparing you for the summit push the following night. After a hearty meal, relax and rest as you mentally prepare for the early summit attempt that awaits you.

Day 7: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Descent to Mweka Camp

The final day begins in the early hours, with a challenging but exhilarating ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. As you reach the summit, you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the African continent below, making every step of the journey worthwhile. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for rest and recovery.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Airport Drop-Off

Complete your descent through Kilimanjaro’s dense rainforest, arriving at Mweka Gate where you’ll receive your summit certificate. After bidding farewell to your trekking team, you’ll be transferred back to Arusha or Moshi for a well-deserved rest. Later, you’ll be dropped off at the airport for your departure, marking the conclusion of your incredible Kilimanjaro journey.
